We had some visitors in our backyard today. A family of crows. Turned out to be a mom, dad and baby crow, but earlier in the day we didn't know that.

When I let the dog out this morning to go potty, there was this one crow on the ground, just hopping around. It would try to fly, but couldn't seem to get off the ground. I assumed it was hurt. The other 2 crows would be on the fence near it, or swooping by as if trying to protect it from us. I was concerned that we would have a dead bird on our hands soon, or that the other crows would attack us. So, I called animal control. And was given the number to dispatch. I called dispatch. And was given the number to a bird rehabilitation center or something like that. I called them, and explained what I saw. She explained that it was a baby (apparently they hit the size of an adult after just a few weeks) and that it was learning to fly. The parents are very protective, and will stay by it and protect their baby until it can fly, which she said would take about 3-4 days. Apparently you can tell it's a baby by the color of its eyes, blue. They turn dark brown or black when they are adults. Interesting huh?!

All we heard all day long was these birds. And they are loud birds. Hopefully this baby will be able to fly out of our backyard in the near future. I felt bad for it as it hopped around the yard in the rain this afternoon. It didn't seem to be too bothered by it though.

Such a Sight!

I came home to one of the cutest sights ever...my two babies riding a bike-thing down my parents driveway. Did I mention they were riding it together? Happily I might add. Kycen loves his sister something fierce (Preslie gets so annoyed with him sometimes. Actually most times.). Kycen had the biggest grin on his little face!





Now that's what I want to come home to after a long day at work!

We all scream for ICE CREAM!

Last Friday, I took the kids out for ice cream, and Kycen was lucky enough to get his very own cone :) And man was he excited! This would've been his very first cone...one he wasn't sharing with me or with Preslie. He ate it all, not that that should surprise me (or anyone else for that matter). The look on his cute face was pure delight!

Baby Steps

So today, my baby boy took his first steps. Without holding onto anything. 6 whole steps. We all praised and clapped for him, and he looked at us and clapped while having a huge grin on his face. I've waited for months it seems for him to walk. He's been able to stand up in the middle of a room for some time now, so I thought he'd be walking soon. Honestly, I don't think he has a desire to walk. He gets around quicker by crawling. One day (soon I'm sure), he'll be running through the house chasing after his sister. Or the dog. Probably the cat.
*sigh* they grow up so fast...in the blink of an eye really. It was just yesterday that he was a tiny newborn, and now he's on the way to being a toddler.

Wenches and faeries and peasants, oh my!

We finally were able to venture out to the Renaissance Festival! After the mother's day fiasco (damn bad weather), I was looking forward to being able to check out this scene. I think we may have found us a new tradition! It turned out to be one of the funnest activities we have done, and we've done alot of things!

The weather was perfect...we all were in shorts/capris and flip flops. I even managed to get burned in the few hours we were there! Crazy I know.



There were so many people dressed up and in complete character. They would talk to us about "mirrors on our eyes" (sunglasses) and the stroller (I can't remember for the life of me what they called it). All in accents! And everyone was so friendly. We barely made it through the gate when we made our first purchase. This hair thing for Preslie's hair. We NEVER get to do fun things with her hair when we go places because it's just too curly! She was super excited that we could try something new.




The stores were all full of handmade items that were "period" appropriate (from the renaissance timeframe).

Not long after the hair styling, Preslie was approached by a faery, and even became one! Imagine that! She got to paint some wings for her to bring home. Jessika (my neighbor) went with us, and she got a henna tattoo. The girls went on pony rides (they were huge huge horses, not pony's), and Kycen sat on the horse with Preslie, and hated it. Must've been too tall for him...







We watched horse acrobats, joisting, bands. We even got to eat a roasted TURKEY LEG! One whole pound of turkey goodness! All three of us ate that one leg. Kycen loved it (but we know he loves everything). Preslie even loved it. One of my favorite purchases was our drink. They served homemade rootbeer, cream soda, lemonade (among others) in these really cool blue bottles. Ours had a cork to seal it. Preslie thought we looked like we were drinking beer. I had to correct her and tell her it was more like wine...lol. Thank goodness she didn't repeat that to anyone outside of the fair. I may have gotten some dirty looks from that comment.






It was a great day! I'm so glad that we tried something new. And next year...we're dressing up!

Happy Mother's Day!

On this special day, dedicated to the Mother's of the world, I am thankful for my own mother and for my little ones that made me a mother. I'm thankful my own mom was a good example on the type of mom I wanted to be when I grew up. Well here I am, all grown up, and I find myself saying and doing things that my mom did (and sometimes the things I swore I would never do). My life became more meaningful the moment I held Preslie in my arms for the first time...the moment I became a mom.

Teacher Appreciation

I have been sooo inspired by some of the ideas I've seen on the blogs I follow, that I decided to put on my creative hat, and make something for Preslie's teacher. I was so impressed with the outcome, I decided to make one for my friends daughters teacher too. I figure she's had so much going on lately with her mom in the hospital, that she wouldn't have a chance to do anything for the teacher.

So here is the project. Pretty darn cute if I do say so myself :)
