They call it salsa...Mango salsa?

But it's really not salsa per se...
I joined a food co-op to get fresh fruits and vegetables weekly for quite a savings, and this last week one of my fruits was mangos. And mangos I got! There was 10 in my basket. I knew I couldn't eat that many mangos on my own, so I thought I'd whip up some of my mango-strawberry salsa, with homemade cinnamon tortilla chips. Sound complicated? Not really. Time consuming? Very!

My old team at worked loved it when I'd bring this in. My new team...I'm not sure if they liked it as well. Maybe they are just pickier. Or weary of the new girl bringing in weird looking food. Not sure, but those that did try it, really liked it!

Weekend Fun

We seemed to stay pretty busy this last weekend. Friday afternoon, my mom wanted to take the kids to the pool, but since it would've been Kycen's first time at the pool, I thought it was important that I was there to see if he liked it. Well, he didn't. Could it be because it was naptime and he was hungry? Probably. Could it be that he just didn't like the water? I sure hope not! I think I got him smiling once, and he was not even in the pool. He was about 2 feet from the edge of the pool to be exact. Sitting on dry land. I'm hoping that this isn't how we will be spending our summer days at the pool.






Friday night, we picked strawberries. Lots.of.strawberries. This was the 2nd day in a row where we've picked a full bowl. And then ate the entire bowl in pretty much one sitting. Kycen especially loves the strawberries. They are just his size! (These pictures are actually from Thursday night..silly me didn't take my camera out!)







Saturday night I took the kids to see Rio. It was actually a pretty cute movie! And so made me want to play Angry Birds Rio directly after the show. It was funny to see how much the movie and the game were EXACTLY the same.

Happy Father's Day

While neither of my kids have dads involved with them, they do have an awesome grandpa to celebrate father's day for. Preslie was set on giving my dad a "purple tie", and I was a little nervous letting her pick it out. It actually didn't turn out to be a horrible looking tie. I'm sure he'll be wearing it next sunday to church, because that's just what kind of grandpa my dad is :) I'm very fortunate to have a dad that would do anything for his grandchildren. And is so patient in doing so! Who else would spend the last month teaching Preslie how to golf, buy her golf clubs for her birthday, and put her in golf lessons? (Ok my mom was involved in all of that too, but still.)







I certainly enjoyed the free printables I found online!

Slacker

Yes, I'm referring to myself. I feel like such a slacker in the blog department the last month (or maybe just June?). Not sure if it's because I'm busy, or nothing really noteworthy to blog about, lazy, or occupying my free time entering contests (ya, it's probably that last one lol).

Anyhow, I need to get back into it. Especially with summer about to start anyday now. I figure there are plenty of activities to get involved in and take the kids to do. I mean, we are taking a road trip to San Diego in about a month to see my friend get married. That should be an adventure right? Me, alone with 2 kids, on a 12 hour drive? Personally I think I'm crazy, but I'm down for a challenge. I do say that a little bit nervously. Especially when I have a 15 month old that hates the carseat. :(

On a happy note, I did win my first contest ever, from Too Silly Sisters @perfectisboring.blogspot.com . I was so excited!

Happy Birthday Preslie!

6 years old. Wow. I officially have a 6 year old! I'm a little bit in shock...there were a few days that I didn't think she'd make it to 6, and of course, the days when I couldn't wait for her to be 6! And now that it's here, it does make me a little sad. The time has gone by so quickly. She's going to be starting 1st grade in the Fall. She wants to wear makeup (ok ok it's play makeup but still!). She wants to stay up well past MY bedtime. *sigh* Guess there's no stopping it; my baby girl is growing up. I must say, it's been a great ride so far, with so much more to come!

I had to work today, and you went to Pages with cupcakes to share with your whole class. Normally you choose popsicles to share, but you went with something different and a tad on the unexpected side. Your other choice-mint oreos...weird. I didn't even know you liked them?!

Preslie's Mad Hatter Tea Party

Yesterday was Preslie's 6th birthday party. I have planned outside parties the last 3 years, and it has rained. No I take that back, poured. So I've always had to change my original plans and the party didn't go as I imagined. Yesterday started out the same as previous years, with clouds and rain. I was distraught! But as the morning progressed, the day actually turned out pretty great. Everything seemed to fall into place.

I didn't get all of my decorations put up, but it turned out to be perfect anyways. No one would've notice any different. The cupcake toppers I ordered from Texas, showed up the morning OF the party. My cousin Annie made it to the party to take pictures for me (when she had the flu just 24 hours before). It didn't rain. Oh, the party I planned actually happened! I mean, this party has been in the works for the last 6 months (working on it a little here and a little there)...

I printed the party details on vellum and attached them to the notecard. It was much better then handwriting them all...at least it looked much cuter!

I hung it on the goodie table because I couldn't find a really good place to hang it, since we were outside on the grass.

The Favor Bags

I had to buy big enough bags that the girls could take all their goodies home in it, which included an Alice in Wonderland book, pen, and fruit snack, as well as their tea cup and saucer and a bag that they filled with the "eat me" candies. I thought I could get away with just a bow and the tag that Preslie signed, but they looked a little bare. So I used my neighbors Cricut machine and cut out some 6's to put on the bags.




Make a Mad Hat Table

I was a little sad that I didn't get a picture of this table before all the kids showed up and we started making the "hats", but I cropped this one down pretty good to show how I had it set up. I had 4 baskets labeled with a tag telling you what was in the basket (bands, flowers, cups, and bows). I had feathers to put on the them too. These actually turned out so much cuter than I even expected! Headbands were way more girly than a hat (and pretty cost friendly too).









Tea Party Table

I borrowed a bunch of tea pots from my Grandma, because I couldn't seem to find any at the local thrift stores or garage sales. I bought tea cups for all the girls to take home with them, and put a "drink me" tag on each one. The food-tea sandwiches, little cookies, apple slices, and mini cream puffs. The drinks-pink lemonade (and Preslie drank orange spice tea...that's my girl!).
