1st day of school (a little late)

I can't believe I actually have a first grader! I'm a little late with posting about the first day of school! And believe it or not, this year was harder on me than last year for some reason! I cried like a baby on the drive from my house to my moms house, where she catches the bus. And maybe that's just it. The bus. I'm no longer dropping her off at school, she's catching the bus, and she's EXCITED about it! Just another sign that she's growing up...

Doesn't that backpack just look enormous?!

Getting on the bus (and not even looking back) :(

In line, getting ready to start the first day of school!

Weekend o' (not so much) fun

What was meant to be a great weekend away, turned out to be, well, less than great. Which totally just sucks, but maybe we can try again next year?!

I've been a little depressed that I had to miss my bestie's wedding last month. Especially when I had been planning on this trip and getting away from here (utah). When my job wouldn't let me have the time off, I had no choice but to give up on my fantasy of a vacation. So to make some sort of amends to myself and Preslie, I booked a weekend up in Park City. Not too far away, but far enough! One of my good friends made fun of me for doing this, because I should've just stayed home and gone to the pool, but I think she missed the bigger picture.
At a hotel,
1. I can leave a mess, and someone will always clean up after ME (not the other way around),
2. I can hang out at the pool and be guaranteed a lawn chair and less of a crowd to stare at me and my white legs,
3. it gives me an excuse to eat out because I don't have a kitchen or microwave or any way of cooking food,
4. I get to watch tv in bed (yes, I am one of those who doesn't have a tv in my room),
5. my kids can jump on the beds and be as loud as they want (within reason) and I don't worry about them being so noisy
6. We all snuggled in one bed and watched tv

Sounds pretty good so far, right? Well, let's get on to the bad part. Saturday morning, we got ready to head to the outlet mall, went to the car, and my car wouldn't start! I didn't know if maybe something was left on, so we called the ONLY tow place in PC for a jump start. $50 later, and we were on our way. Got gas, shopped, tried to find the gondola (no luck) and went back to the hotel. Took a nap, spent several hours at the pool, and went to leave to go eat dinner in town, and yes, the car wouldn't start. Again! Can you believe that not a single person at the hotel had jumper cables? Well no one did. We ate dinner at the hotel, and we were getting some stuff out of the car and someone had jumper cables and jumped my car. Yeah! Not really. I knew it was short lived. I also knew it would be dead by morning. The car got jumped again this morning (my hero drove from Ogden up to rescue me) and we drove to have breakfast on the way home. Dead again. Finally made it to AutoZone, battery was bad, and they replaced it. $120 later, we were finally on the way home.

Preslie was upset that we didn't ride the gondola or go to the zoo, and she's reminded me about 100 times over the course of the day. But, let's just consider what this trip was supposed to be, a GETAWAY! And it was. The hotel was nice, and the restaurant at the hotel was good. The weather was great! Would I do it again? You bet!!

Now for some pics...

Kycen checking out every single drawer in the room

Trying to get a pic of my two babies (didn't happen)

Oh, the pool :)

Even a pic of me trying to get some sun

What a stud! Check out those shades...lol

And my little fish, who didn't mind the sub-zero pool temps (especially for it being a "heated" pool)

Notice, Kycen isn't found in the water, ever. It was just too cold for him (and me since I would've had to be in there with him).

Time to play catch-up

I've totally let the ball drop on blogging the entire month of August! What has happened in our little household? Let's see...

Roy Days Parade

See that candy in his hands? He wouldn't let go of it to get more! He'd just get frustrated trying to pick up more candy in his already full hands :)

Here comes the float!

One of my best friends got married on July 30th. In San Diego. I couldn't go because my new job wouldn't let me have the time off, and it's just way too expensive to fly. BUT, she did have an open house here in Utah the next saturday at her parents house. It was really nice to see her and the girls, since they moved to the San Diego area in June.

How handsome does my little man look? Cute tie to match the wedding colors, made by an old friend from Washington (of course she doesn't live there now).

Kycen just playing around outside...but darn he's cute!

Stake Party at the Aquatic Center

Getting our nails done (pedicure for me, all nails painted for her)

And we'll end with Back to School Night at Preslie's new school!

August...ick

Oh August...how I'm beginning to resent you...

You are pretty much the end of summer. And that really makes me sad when I haven't even really enjoyed summer yet.

You mean school is starting (2.5 weeks and counting), which also means having to be home and in bed early :(

You are the beginning of the end for great local fruit selections (the yummy summer fruits)

You are the end of dance for Preslie, outdoor swimming pools, local firework days, and the sun setting after 9pm

*sigh*

There are some pluses I'm sure...I just can't think of any right now ;)

Haircuts

I took my little baby for a haircut last weekend, and it went well, for the most part. Kycen sat in the chair lookin like a little man (ok so he pouted the whole time) while the girl cut his hair off. Well not ALL the way off, but you can totally tell the difference. It's not as baby soft anymore. The curls show up better. He looks like he has more hair now. It actually looks darker. And it made me a little sad. Sad that this was my baby's first haircut. Sad that it was like turning him into a little boy (I know that's not exactly possible, it just seems that way). But he does look awfully cute :)

Can you see all those curls that were cut off?
